This inspirational book explores the divine connection between expressing talents and a purposeful life. Learn how to showcase hidden desires and gifts.

For anyone who is feeling confused about which direction to take in terms of an occupation or who yearns to feel job satisfaction - Gifts of the Soul (Sustainable Solutions Press, 1999) by Laura V. Hyde gives insightful advice. The 72 pages, which are divided into 11 chapters, are filled with valuable information in the form of teachings from a Course in Miracles, illuminating exercises and motivational affirmations. This article looks at the ideas contained in the book such as listening to intuition, creating abundance, and being grateful.

Sharing Talents and Following Intuition

Hyde emphasizes that each person received specific skills and gifts that are waiting to be tapped for the greater good of everyone. She encourages people to follow their intuition and hearts desires to manifest a life filled with happiness and abundance. "Actualizing your inherent gifts is not a lofty, unrealistic concept. In fact, quite the contrary. Everyday, more and more people are realizing the staggering power of an expanded mind and an exposed heart," Hyde writes.

She explains that making an honest living is not just about paying the bills but about doing meaningful work while earning money. "It means performing work that nourishes our intuitive heart, work that is congruent with our higher path," she writes. Hyde's definition of making an honest living involves being truthful to one's deepest self and not to sell out in the name of money or prestige. "You are not meant to struggle, but to be happy, and whenever you do something that brings you joy, you radiate a light that illuminates the entire universe," she eloquently states.

Being Grateful and Creating Abundance

According to Hyde, people who are feeling unfulfilled in their jobs, relationships, health and finances are blocking the flow of abundance. She advises people to become grateful for all the blessings in their lives in order to experience more abundance in their lives. "Appreciation validates our worth and affirms we are deserving of having everything our heart desires," she writes. She also warns that negating oneself will only increase a sense of lack by focusing on the things that are missing in one's life. "If we slam our work, we are by definition, slamming our own ability to create. It's never the situation that needs correcting, but our thoughts about the situation that needs healing," she explains.

Hyde also points out that people should be appreciated in their relationships and their work. Therefore if an environment proves to be disrespecting it is wise to remove oneself from such a situation. "We all need respect and appreciation to feel good about ourselves . It's not emotionally, physically, intellectually or spiritually healthy for anyone to stay in a situation where appreciation is lacking," she states. She also reminds people to appreciate themselves.

Gifts of the Soul encourages people to explore their intuitive guidance and to claim a purposeful life which inspires others. It reinforces the idea that the world would be a better place if everyone decided to be true to themselves and to do what makes them happy. The books also teaches that in order to experience an abundant life it is important to appreciate all the blessings in our lives while waiting for the arrival of the things we hope for. Hyde underlines the idea that every single person is destined to be brilliant and that being brilliant doesn't take anything away from anybody but shows them that they too can live a life filled with peace, harmony and joy.
